Asia’s Richest Businessman Invests in Beyond Eggs

Hampton Creek Foods is on the frontier of animal alternatives, and its Beyond Egg product is garnering the attention of heavy-hitting investors who play to win. Hampton has secured funding from Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang (and his company AME Cloud Ventures), and hedge fund billionaire Tom Steyer. Recently, Tetrick also garnered the attention of Asia’s richest businessman, Li Ka-Shing, whose tech-investment firm, Horizons Ventures, will input $23 million. Ka-Shing’s choice to fund Beyond Eggs may be influenced by his native country China’s heavy reliance on eggs, and the ecological devastation the farming industry has caused. “Everyone wants a clean and sustainable world, and we love that Hampton Creek is committed to that goal—egg by egg,” says Li in a statement. According to Forbes, Li has a track record of tech-savvy investments, and has allocated money to Skype, Facebook, and Spotify in the past.
